I’m glad to tell you that it looks as though my Monday afternoon classes are a go. We will be meeting for five classes, starting on Monday, October 31, from 2.00 to 3.30 pm. Our topic will be “Aaron and the Golden Calf”.
As you know, Aaron perplexingly seems to be overwhelmed by the yearning and anxious masses of Bnei Yisrael at the foot of Mt. Sinai, and gives in to their need for a substitute (for whom or what? Discuss.) in the form of a golden calf. In due course, Moses returns and is so horrified by Israel’s action that he breaks the tablets upon which God has written the ten commandments.
We’ll spend five weekly sessions discussing that episode and trying to figure out what Aaron thought he was doing and why he did it. I don’t expect to remove your perplexity by the end of this series, but I hope you’ll be better informed about why you’re perplexed!
Contact me via email if this episode makes you itch so much that you have to scratch it by talking it out. And have a sweet, happy, healthy 5772.
